Dr. Wartena will be chairing the 2nd annual 10X Advanced Battery R&D conference in Santa Clara CA, Jan 23-24, and will be giving a talk on GELI technologies for networking energy storage:
Exclusive Interview in Smart Grid Today
GELI’s founder, Dr. Ryan Wartena, asks the big question;
What’s the value of energy storage on the grid?
Growing Energy Labs banking on value of keeping power, data local
“I absolutely see this as being as widespread as washing machines. There are about a dozen manufacturers in Asia, Europe and the US gearing up to build this type of system for the home.”
The Internet of Energy at Grid-Interop 2011
Dr. Ryan Wartena will give an informal talk at Grid-Interop (Dec. 5 – 8 in Phoenix, AZ) on the technologies for building the Internet of Energy. The Internet of Energy is a new paradigm in which known amounts of energy can be very efficiently dispatched using software for economic modeling and long-lived energy storage integrated into the grid. The talk is aimed at product designers, system integrators, and consultants who want to better understand how emerging standards for grid interoperability may change the grid infrastructure in the future. GELI makes Cleantech Open highlight
Richmond Confidential staff writer Derek Lartaud caught up with GELI’s founder Ryan Wartena at the Cleantech Open Regional event in October;
GELI’s Energy Computer debuts at Solar Power International 2011
At SPI 2011, Growing Energy Labs Inc, in partnership with Heart Transverter, introduces its platform for networked energy storage in the residential solar market. Called the Home Energy Computer, the platform integrates long-lived Li-ion battery storage and the innovative Heart Transverter power module into a personal micro utility for the home or business. Conference attendees can learn more and pre-order units at exhibit booth 307-OD.
GELI named one of “5 smart grid startups to watch”
Growing Energy Labs is one of several dozen semi-finalists in the Cleantech Open Business Competition, an accelerator for cleantech startups nationwide.
GigaOM, a leading provider of online media, events, and research for global technology innovators, named GELI as one of 5 smart grid startups to watch.
Creating Certainty through Uncertainty
InnovatingSMART helps to shape the future by telling the collective story of sustainable, regenerative SMART innovation.
In editor Sue Lebeck’s blog post on “Creating Certainty through Uncertainty“, she makes the case that “When it comes to energy in America, Certainty has most certainly become the condition we have come to expect – nay, demand — from the electrical grid. [..] Our path to sustained Certainty, however, is highly Uncertain.”
She caught up with GELI’s VP of Operations, Ted Beatie, at the Plug and Play Smart Grid event for a few words discussing GELI technology.

GELI enters the GE Ecomagination Challenge
GELI enters the GE Ecomagination Challenge with the Energy Computer and the Energy Computer Network.
Overview: The Energy Comptuter™ is the hardware and software platform for the next level of computers and Internet. Networking energy storage in appliances and UPS’s enables renewable energy reliability, electric vehicle recharging and local energy exchange. Heat-tolerant and long-lived Li-ion batteries allow the electrical grid to become the Internet of Energy.
GELI enters the mainstream consciousness
Serendipitous emergence: The Rise of the Net Buzzword ‘gelivable’. adj. A Chinglish word, be able to excite, make someone feel cheerful. ge- in Chinese means give, li- means power, strength or energy. Wired, Urban Dictionary, ChinaDaily, Shanghai Daily, Yahoo.
